Playa Francisco and Playa Langosta

The urbanization just south of Tamarindo is called Langosta. Here you find the more upscale condominiums and prestige big villas. Coastal Property Management rents and manages several condominiums and villas in Langosta. At the end of Langosta is the all-in Hotel Barcelo.  Most people call the beach along this urbanization Playa Langosta. But this beach, which you can reach by walking through the little park called Park San Francisco, is called after this park; Playa Francisco.IMG_3975

If you are on the end of this beach, just were the Hotel Barcelo is, the beach ends at an estuary. This is a great place to let your little children save in the water because in this lake-like estuary there are no waves.

Passing the estuary, which you can do by walking at low tie, you enter a long yellow sanded beach. This beach, which is part of the Hacienda Pinilla, is the real Playa Langosta. A nice well maintained dirt road in Hacienda Pinilla, leads to this very quit beach. IMG_3973You go along the pasture and at the end you get the feeling that you are driving through the tropical dry-forest while you drive along the beach for a little while. At the end is a parking place and Hacienda Pinilla provided a few beach chairs and a shower. It is a very nice place to relax and enjoy the sun and the ocean.

22nd Credomatic Music Festival

The 22nd Credomatic Music Festival is bursting with new venues and musical talent from around the world. The festival is set to take place Aug. 4-19 in dozens of locations around the country.

Performers include a classical pianist, a viola soloist and renowned vocalists and symphonic assemblies. Artists hail from Costa Rica, France, Mexico, the United States, Holland, Japan, Canada and other countries. These groups will perform in some of the most spectacular settings of Costa Rica, from San José’s Teatro Nacional to mountain lodges and historical churches to beach resorts.

35 journalists from various publications are hosted at Hacienda Pinilla for the festival’s press conference.

One group generating buzz is composed of four young musicians who perform a fusion of jazz, Latin, classical and pop. Called Quattro, this group from the U.S. has appeared on American Idol and recorded tracks for movies including “Ice Age” and “X-Men.” Members include Giovanna Clayton (cello and vocals), Lisa Dondlinger (violin and vocals), Kayta Matsuno (guitar and vocals) and Jorge Villanueva (percussion and vocals). The festival director said Quattro has a fantastic way of demanding and moving the listener’s attention from the vocalist to the percussion to the cello.

Entrance to some of the concerts in churches, historical centers and EARTH University will be free. Workshops will also be held for young musicians. Not all of the festival’s programming has been decided. We hope to inform you later about the program in our region. For sure Hacienda Pinilla will host a few concerts.

Hotel Posada del Sol

Hacienda PinillaWhen Atlanta developer Pat Pattillo bought the 4500 acre farm in 1973, it was mostly desolate pastureland and sweaty, masticating cows. In exchange for much of the desolate pastureland, Pattillo has replanted nearly a million trees of dry forest and winding hiking trails. He has also built a hotel, luxury condos and homes, and he connected them with paved roads. Additionally, Pattillo has installed three fiber optic cables, a water-supply system, a golf course, a tennis and fitness center, horse stables, a beach resort, three restaurants and a waste water treatment plant to accommodate 8,000 residents. The extensive project has also been a godsend for the local community, for which Pattillo has provide financial resources, cultural events and precious jobs. At one time, his operation employed more than 1,000 Ticos.  Two years ago, he built a new Beach Club at Avellanas Beach, which boasts its own restaurant and wellness area. There are a variety of long- and short-term options for guest accommodation: the colonial-style residential homes in the communities of Villas Malinches, Avellanas and Villas Palmas Real suit families and retirees looking to come back again and again (and perhaps just stay a while). The Pinilla property also includes the JW Marriot Guanacaste – a 310-room resort and spa that went up in 2009.

First Costarican reach the top of the Mount Everest. Warner Rojas left camp 4 last Thursday at 8 pm to climb the last 900 meters to the top of the Mount Everest. This last climb takes 10 to 12 hours. In this way they expect to be early in the morning at the top so there will be time enough to descent before dark because descending in the dark is dangerous.

English language schools in Costa Rica. At the 30th of June the Instituto Britanico will close its doors of the just in May opened new school building. The institute teaches English in Costa Rica since 28 years. Over 15.000 students learned English at the institute. In two years the tutoring hours to students from companies dropped down in half. At the other hand, the Brazilian institute Wizard Language Institute, that has already more than 1200 sites worldwide opened the first site in Costa Rica just a few month ago. Other language schools also had a fall in students since 2009. But most schools see their numbers growing since the beginning of the year, mostly because big foreign companies start to invest and hire in Costa Rica again.

Medical tourism. Last Monday started the Medical Travel International Business Summit in San Jose. Thirteen countries and 200 businesses took part in the three-day summit, organized by the Council for the International Promotion of Costa Rica Medicine and aimed at developing medical tourism in Costa Rica and Latin America. Medical tourism generated about $288 million in Costa Rica in 2010, with an estimated 36,000 medical tourists visiting the country, according to figures provided by the Presidency Ministry. In 2014, the industry is expected to generate some $800 million in dividends and attract 100,000 visitors to the country. Edgar Salazar, manager of Nova Dental Advanced Dental Center, said 95 percent of Nova’s customers are foreigners, and the majority are U.S. or Canadian citizens. He said the market for foreigners travelling to Costa Rica to have medical procedures is only going to grow. At Clínica Bíblica Hospital in San José, 18 percent of patients are foreigners. Medical tourism isn’t something that will just affect hospitals,  but will create new opportunities for all tourism-related businesses.

CPM Moves to Google Calendars

Costa Rica Rental CAlendarAt CPM we always try to use technology to the fullest to book.  One challenge with working with all of the marketing tools that belong to CPM across various platforms has been maintaining calendars.  Multiply the number of properties we book for by the number of sites our properties are listed on and you get an idea of the scope of that work.

Google Calendar gives us the ability to place one Tamarindo rental calendar across many different sites that belong to us but also our booking partners and owners can integrate that calendar as well.  We can update bookings across our Hacienda Pinilla, Playa Grande, Tamarindo, Coastal Property Management, and other partner sites all at once.

Owners that use Google Calendar personally can also pull their units booking calendar into their Google Calendar for easy access on smart phones, etc.

Please contact us if you would like to connect a vacation rental unit’s calendar in your site.
